Defense Strength Question

I just wanted to get an idea of what a good defense should look like at this stage of the game. What's an A-typical (standard) defense for a planet?

im not english, american nither so sorry 4 my language but 1st question is: do u wanna go for fleet and be agressor or wanna be defensive miner ?

I thought I would be more of an aggressor (attacker-type), than defense. However, I would think having both would be helpful.

Hey Nyx, I checked out that link, but that is talking about millions of resources to do that. I don't make enough money to build like that. I figured I would go with heavy lasers and then Ion cannons for when I run low on minerals but high on crystals. Anyone got a better idea?

i like to check http://www.toolsforogame.com they have a few tools like the battle tool that you can input the stats of you and your enemy and see who should win the battle . i just type in my stats and see what it takes to beat it , and with that and what res i leave on the planet i can see if its worth it for someone to attack or not . using this ive only been attacked once right when i came off noob protection .
